What are Bonds in Star Wars Zero Company?

Star Wars Zero Company Bonds are pair-based relationships between Operators. They grow through shared missions and Den interactions, then unlock permanent combat benefits when a pair reaches a new Bond level. The most important rewards are Cross-training choices and Focus Points, while the exact threshold table for every pairing is To be confirmed.

Every Operator tracks a relationship with every other Operator. The system covers authored companions and Custom Operators, so a pair does not need to belong to the story cast to develop a Bond. Relationships can begin neutral or negative, which means a strong partnership comes from repeated cooperation rather than from a one-time menu action.

What Bonds unlock

When a Bond rises to a new level, the pair can choose a Cross-training reward. The selected bonus applies to both Operators, including when they are deployed separately later in the campaign. A maximum Bond also unlocks a special Cross-training tier with a Passive Ability, although the full maximum-level table is To be confirmed.

Bonds also provide Focus Points. These points are spent in the Personnel facility’s Focus Tree to improve Talents, Abilities, and Passives, so relationship growth feeds directly into Operator development. The Den’s Personnel menu is the practical place to inspect the current pairing, Bond level, and available training choices.

The relationship system also changes the feel of the campaign outside combat. Conversations between bonded characters can develop as their relationship becomes stronger, while Dilemmas can move Bonds in either direction. Those story moments add a leadership decision to the same strategic layer that handles missions, injuries, and upgrades.

How to increase Bonds

The safest Bond method is to deploy the same two Operators on a shared mission. Mission participation contributes to their relationship, and the pairing also gains natural opportunities to help one another during combat. Shared deployment is especially useful when you already want both Operators for the mission objective.

Operations provide another route. Assigning two Operators to the same non-combat assignment can increase their Bond while the company earns strategic rewards. Read the Operation panel before confirming the assignment because Operations can require Intel, carry an injury risk, expire with the current Cycle, or offer a choice that affects a different Bond.

Call for Backup is a free combat action tied to the relationship system. One Operator is selected for the action on a turn, and that Operator chooses an ally to call. The ally can Assist the caller’s next attack when they have line of sight to the target, giving the pair a combat reason to coordinate as well as a relationship reason.

Healing actions can also strengthen the relationship between the Medic and the Operator being treated. Dialogue, Dilemmas, and other Den interactions can influence Bonds too. Exact Bond XP values for each action, including support actions, PICO-5 interactions, and Lounge activity, are To be confirmed.

A practical Bond farming routine

Start each Cycle by checking the Holotable and the Personnel Bond menu. Pick one or two pairings that match the next Tactical Mission, then look for Operations that can send those same Operators together. This keeps the relationship plan connected to the campaign board instead of forcing a weak squad into every deployment.

Use Call for Backup when the selected Operator can safely create a useful Assist. The ally still needs line of sight, so place both Operators where the follow-up attack remains possible. A Bond action that leaves one Operator exposed can cost more than the relationship progress is worth, especially on a Dangerous mission.

Keep a healthy pairing in the rotation when an Operator enters the Medbay. Cross-training rewards remain active for both members even when they do not deploy together, but future Bond growth depends on the activities that the game actually counts. A Lounge upgrade may support Operators who stay at the Den, while the exact passive gain from each Lounge tier is To be confirmed.

Bond levels, choices, and decay

The Bond menu uses named relationship tiers that include Low, Neutral, High, and Very High. A meter in the Cross Trainings menu shows the current level for each Operator pairing. Very High is also the highest named tier recorded in the current material, while any additional level names or hidden thresholds are To be confirmed.

Cross-training choices are permanent once selected. Recorded High-level options include Timing Exercises for Critical Chance, Reflex Fire Training for Overwatch Damage, and Freeform Training for Focus Points. The exact percentage, damage value, available pool, and order can vary by campaign record, so verify the live choice panel before treating a reward as universal.

Bonds can also decay or fracture after player decisions. Approval toward Hawks, Dilemma choices, and the way the company handles story situations can create positive or negative movement. The full decay formula and the exact conditions for every relationship change are To be confirmed.

Bonds and Cross-training

Bonds and Cross-training are linked systems with different roles. Bonds measure how two Operators develop together, while Cross-training turns a Bond milestone into a permanent benefit for the pair. Read the dedicated Star Wars Zero Company Cross Training guide when you need to compare the choice screen and plan a reward.

The best pairing is therefore the one that serves your actual roster. A Scout and a Heavy may value a different permanent bonus from two close-range Operators, and a Medic pairing may gain value from repeated healing opportunities. Choose according to the roles you deploy and the options shown in the current menu, since a universal best Bond reward is To be confirmed.

Bonds and romance status

Bonds represent squad relationships and professional trust. They do not establish a player-centered romance route, dating choice, or romance ending in the current confirmed information. For the separate romance question, see Does Star Wars Zero Company have romance.

The system can still make squad relationships meaningful. Operators react to choices, develop personal conversations, and gain combat value from working together, while the campaign remains focused on leading a tactical company. Romanceable characters, romantic branches, and future relationship additions are To be confirmed.
