Star Wars Zero Company mission objectives guide
Understand Star Wars Zero Company mission objectives, including rescue, extraction, sabotage, defense, retrieval, occupation, and elimination goals.
The direct answer
Star Wars Zero Company mission objectives tell you what must happen for a Tactical Mission to succeed. Read the objective banner in the top-left interface and follow its marker on the map before you spend Action Points. A mission can finish with enemies alive when the objective is movement, rescue, retrieval, sabotage, defense, or extraction.
Players do not need to defeat every enemy unless the mission objective explicitly requires it. An objective can change during the encounter, so the first prompt is not always the final condition.
The main objective groups
The objective families include the following tasks. The exact wording on a particular mission should be read from its current briefing.
- Move and investigate. Move To Location and Narrative Interact ask an Operator to reach a place or inspect it.
- Rescue and protect. Rescue Soldier and Defend VIP require the squad to reach a protected person and keep that target alive.
- Retrieve and gather. Gather Supplies asks for an item or supply objective to be completed before the squad leaves.
- Sabotage and destroy. Sabotage Plant The Charge, Long Interact, and Destroy Target use an interaction or destruction step to remove a threat.
- Occupy and defend a region. Occupy Region, Occupy Region Announcement, and Occupy Region Evac use a marked area and can lead into a later movement phase.
- Escape and evacuate. Escape, Evac, and Escape Progress move the squad toward an extraction zone and can show who is still waiting to leave.
- Eliminate. Defeat All Enemies, Sweep, and Crisis Defeat Tagged Unit require a full clear or the defeat of a named or marked target.
Some entries in the data support timing, cutscenes, or encounter logic. Delay can ask the player to wait, while Trigger Encounter Logic and Watch Cutscene can advance the mission state. Those labels are not a reason to skip the briefing because the next prompt may add a movement, defense, or extraction condition.
How the prompt changes your plan
Movement objectives make distance and cover more important than damage. Move the Operator with the best route toward the marker, then use the rest of the squad to cover that advance. If the map has an extraction phase, keep enough Action Points for the slowest Operator instead of spending every turn on optional targets.
Rescue objectives add a second responsibility. Reaching the target may change the prompt to protect or evacuate, and the rescued unit can remain vulnerable after joining the squad. The Ryloth rescue route has two captive resistance fighters, a four-Operator squad, and a final 6/6 extraction count, so the two rescued characters must be counted at the end.
Sabotage and interaction objectives often create a response from the enemy. In Anaxes Buy Cheap, Never Sleep, the Safecracker interaction changes the battlefield into a defense stage before the squad evacuates. The exact interaction length, reinforcement timing, and failure rules for other missions are To be confirmed.
Elimination objectives need a different standard. Dead Metal on Serolonis is recorded as a full-clear fight against Separatist forces, including later doorway reinforcements and a shielded Droideka. A run that leaves one hostile alive cannot show mission success even if the squad has a safe exit.
Read the map and the objective together
The objective marker shows where the squad needs to go, but it does not solve the route. Look for cover, high ground, bridges, doorways, narrow lanes, and the position from which reinforcements may arrive. A route that reaches the marker quickly can still fail if the protected target or the last Operator cannot follow.
Action Points are part of objective management. Each Operator normally has three Action Points, and movement, attacks, abilities, and Overwatch use the same pool. End the turn with cover or a reaction plan when the objective cannot be completed immediately.
The game also uses Advantage for powerful special actions. Build it through combat when the map allows, then spend it on the target or move that changes the objective state. A grenade that opens an interaction lane can be more useful than a separate attack against an enemy who is not blocking the marker.
Mission examples from the current board
The mission board gives concrete objective summaries. The Serolonis Job asks for a Separatist holopuck, Not Your Turf asks the company to eliminate pirates on Lothal, and Eavesdropping asks the squad to observe a meeting. Dark Waters focuses on intercepting Fathom, while Behind Enemy Lines asks the squad to disable the guns of Mordant Citadel.
Other entries emphasize protection and extraction. Strike Action involves extracting workers from an Imperial forced-labor factory on Sullust, Deep Cover involves ambushing and extracting Baker on Umbara, and the Ryloth rescue route asks the squad to bring every required unit to the marked zone. These summaries help identify the task, but the current briefing remains the authority for the active prompt.
What counts as mission success
Check the objective tracker after every phase change. A mission success screen usually appears when the final condition is met, such as all hostiles defeated, all required units inside the extraction zone, or a target interaction completed. If the screen does not appear, look for a remaining hostile, a unit outside the zone, a protected target that has not been rescued, or an interaction that has not finished.
Do not confuse a story result with a combat result. An Operation may return a reward or unlock a mission without a battlefield objective, while a Tactical Mission may advance the Cycle after its objective resolves. Keep the two layers separate when recording a route or explaining why a board entry disappeared.
When the objective is unclear
Open the briefing again and read the full condition before deploying. Use a detailed community route as a map-specific aid and mark any untested failure state To be confirmed. No universal list of all objectives, all mission counts, or every conditional prompt is established here.
The reliable approach is direct. Identify the final condition, protect the units named by it, spend Action Points on progress, and stop fighting when the objective no longer requires combat. That turns the objective tracker into a route instead of a background label.
